It is with great pleasure that I present the Thurston Community College website.

We believe that our young people are the most important part of the College and that enabling students to learn is at the centre of our work.  Our aim is simple:  to provide the best possible education for each and every Thurston student.  We endeavour to achieve this aim by recruiting and retaining staff of the highest calibre, creating facilities to support effective learning and offering a curriculum which meets the needs of each individual.  In addition, we seek to provide a supportive learning environment in which students are able to grasp every opportunity whilst striving to fulfil their potential.

The poet W. B Yeats said of education:  "Education is not the filling of the pail, but the lighting of a fire".  Compulsory education is just one small step on a ladder of  lifelong learning.  I hope that, above all else, the time our students spend at Thurston Community College lights their fire and makes them passionate about learning.  If they can achieve that, then we have succeeded.
