Thurston Community College at The Proms
Thurston Community College is a thriving, mixed 13-18 comprehensive school, situated four miles outside of Bury St Edmunds and serving a large rural catchment area. With around 170 staff and more than 1,400 students, we are the largest school in West Suffolk. Our Sixth Form is a popular choice, attracting a significant number of students each year from other post-16 providers. Thurston has the second largest school Sixth Form Centre in the whole of Suffolk.

As a community college, we place a strong emphasis on our links with the wider community. We work in partnership with our three feeder Middle Schools and their fifteen feeder Primary Schools, aiming always to provide continuity, progression and the highest standard of education for all of our students.

In addition, the College houses the Community Library and the Headquarters of the Thurston Air Training Corps. We are a satellite centre for West Suffolk College adult education and our facilities are extensively used by members of the community in the evenings and at weekends.

The College has received a number of awards in recognition of our success. We are a Specialist Science College offering outstanding learning opportunities in Science, Mathematics and ICT. Our Artsmark Silver award is testament to our excellence in Art and Design, Music, Dance and Drama. Accreditation as a ‘Healthy School’ confirms our commitment towards encouraging students to adopt a lifestyle based upon a balanced diet, physical activity and general health education.

Recent achievement of the Financial Management Standard in Schools award has validated our secure financial position.
